Last week was marked by a Bitcoin rally. We summarized and discussed in detail the reasons for this BTC growth. It is very likely that we are at an important historical point—the beginning of the global adoption of crypto by over-the-top market players. This rise could probably mean much more than just another temporary price wave for speculation.
Global trends pushing BTC up
BlackRock is set to launch a spot Bitcoin ETF this fall. The SEC has previously rejected such applications for smaller operators, but BlackRock has developed a brand new scheme to implement this fund, which should satisfy all of the regulator's earlier claims. Most experts are positive about the chances of this particular ETF being approved.
Just yesterday, the first calculations appeared on how exactly the launch of such an ETF would affect the market. According to this data, spot ETFs will bring $15 trillion of new money to the crypto industry. In other words, experts claim that the crypto market capitalization could grow 15 times (!) in 2024 (if this ETF gets approved).
One expert, Simon Peters, a market analyst at eToro, noted that BlackRock manages "an eye-watering amount of the world's capital so the success of a spot ETF could unlock enormous amounts of liquidity in the market for bitcoin."
The second important reason for Bitcoin's strength is the devaluation of the yuan. We first wrote about this last week, but as of Monday, the trend continues to gain momentum.
The USD/CNY pair is weakening further, and today it reached 7.236. The Chinese regulator has not resisted the weakening of the national currency so far. Experts say that China has launched another round of currency war against the U.S., which has already sparked fierce rhetoric from the U.S. authorities.
As we explained earlier, the yuan's devaluation course pushes Chinese residents to convert their local currency assets into crypto. In the absence of the availability of conversion to euros and dollars (the Chinese economy is traditionally closed), crypto becomes the only way for local players to save their capital. In this case, China's currency war against the U.S. is very favorable for Bitcoin, but it will cause serious political problems soon, so it is difficult to say how long this tailwind will last.
The banking trend is gaining momentum
Last week saw several important and symbolic decisions by the world's largest banks.
Deutsche Bank, Germany's largest bank and the third bank in Europe, is applying for a blockchain and cryptocurrency license. Cryptocurrency transactions will now become available throughout the EU at the banking service level.
HSBC, the largest bank in Hong Kong (and one of the top 5 in the world), is starting to provide crypto services to its customers from this Monday.
Santander Bank suddenly tweeted about Bitcoin Lightning. This bank has previously been known for a rather negative attitude towards crypto. It is the largest bank in Spain and the fifth largest in Europe. Santander's unexpected tweet about Bitcoin Lightning's usability was perceived by many as a glitch in the matrix, so incredible does this Bitcoin ad look. Unlike the bank's other boring tweets, this bizarre one garnered nearly 800,000 views.
It seems that the winds of change are blowing on the markets, and attitudes toward crypto are beginning to change.
