Attack on altcoins
According to Kaiko, the number of assets that centralized platforms eliminated in the first half of 2023 is almost equal to the total of the entire 2022. Among the assets delisted are popular coins, stablecoins, and fiat. Regulatory problems and belligerent statements by the SEC, when the Commission regularly declares one or another coin an unregistered security, are having an impact. Many exchanges are preemptively getting rid of already named and risky coins.
Details about ETFs
So far, the SEC has not authorized such ETFs for Bitcoin, despite many attempts to do so. But last week, it became known that investment giant BlackRock had decided to create its own Bitcoin ETF. And it's only now that important details about their financial decision have come to light.
The main reason the SEC has never approved the ETF is because of alleged Bitcoin market manipulation.
But BlackRock describes in its filing a new mechanism for a "joint surveillance agreement" between the exchanges. The idea is that Nasdaq will be brought in to monitor the bitcoin spot market. And the spot exchanges (most likely Coinbase, Kraken, and Bitstamp) will share information with it so there is no manipulation. This is a very interesting decision that dramatically increases BlackRock's chances of approval. If the first spot ETF is approved this time, it will be a major event in the crypto world in 2023, which will also open up a new channel for resources into the crypto market.
But more surprisingly, BlackRock's main competitor, Fidelity, the world's third-largest asset management company with a $4.3 trillion balance sheet, also intends to apply for an exchange-traded fund (ETF) for Bitcoin in the coming days. So far, information about Fidelity has not been confirmed by the company itself (the news is being spread by the media), but if it's true, this is the beginning of a race between the world's largest banks for the right to buy into BTC.
Surveillance danger from Big Brother
According to a former Coinbase CTO, if the G7 introduces a procedure for confiscating digital assets, which is being discussed at the G7, tech giants like Apple, Microsoft, and Google will be forced to comply. They would be able to remotely scan users' devices, find private keys, and hand them over to the authorities. According to the former top manager, technically, it is quite possible to do this; only a legislative initiative is needed.
